Recycling a Christmas Tree

Image
This year we recycled our Christmas tree. After Christmas it was left out to dry and then used to construct a cross. During the Sundays of Lent, the children saw a new item added to the cross before they went to Sunday School; drops of blood, a whip, crown of thorns, hammer and nails, robe and dice, and finally a spear. On Easter Sunday, the cross was decorated with flowers and butterflies which the children made in Sunday School. This idea was adapted and expanded from our LCA Lenten worship resources on www.lca.org.au/worship .

Altar and Pulpit Paraments from Long Ago

Image
Over a hundred years ago these paraments were made for the Mangoplah Lutheran Church. It reads in German "I am the Bread of Life". This hauntingly beautiful set was used at a well attended Good Friday worship service  at Bethlehem Lutheran, Wagga Wagga. Note the supple fringe made with fine wire. The Mangoplah congregation closed 28 years ago.

(photo by permission) Lutheran Primary School, Wagga Wagga. The service highlighted five stations of the cross with scripture readings and visuals. During each station one candle was extinguished until there were none. This signifying Jesus death on Good Friday.  Link to school: http://www.lpsww.nsw.edu.au
